- It seems like my last question in the blog entry was at least partly answered by an announcement of March 3. Here Microsoft makes a new tool available to make it easier to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8:
“We have partnered with Laplink to provide Windows XP users with a free data migration tool called PCmover Express for Windows XP which copies your files and settings from your Windows XP PC to a new device running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1”
Although this may be an effective way to duplicate settings like user profiles, and copy user documents, music, pictures and videos, applications will not be handled by this tool. To transfer applications to the new platform, you need a more advanced version called PCmover Professional. This tool is available from Laplink for free.
