How to stay secure and protect your privacy
At the RSA conference in San Francisco, one of the major security event, there is a very clear message to all online citizens – everyone has a responsibility to stay secure and protect their privacy, not only to protect themselves, but also to protect the whole online community. So once again – here a few basic steps to ensure your privacy and security:
- Keep a clean machine. Keep all your software up to date, protect all your devices connected to the internet (including gaming machines, tablets, mobiles) and remember to scan your usb sticks before using them yourself or before passing them on to others.
- Protect your personal information. Create strong and different passwords for your accounts, and always make sure that you set strong privacy and security settings on websites before you end up sharing too much personal information.
- Connect with care. If it looks suspicious, don’t click. Using creative emails, links, attachments, tweets – cyber criminals are great at playing on our curiosity. Be smart about which WIFI hotspots you connect to and when shopping online, make sure the site is security enabled (such as an https:// address)
- Be web wise. Backup your work, music, photos – this is the best investment you will ever make.
